France Comes to Memphis
Didier Tricard, one of Europe’s great booking agents and very good friend of Salzman and Associates will be honored by the Blues Foundation in Memphis at the Keeping the Blues Alive Awards. Didier and Marty have been working together for over 25 years bringing blues to Europe. We are very excited to share this time with Didier and thank him for his professionalism and friendship. Congratulations Didier!!!
Salzman trains Salzman
Jack Salzman son of Marty and Lee Salzman has officially started interning with road manager extraordinaire, Michael Blakemore. Michael is the nephew of the late great Junior Wells and has taken Jack under his wing to show him the ropes. Jack’s first official work will start this spring with Mr. Blakemore in preparing artists for interviews and press junkets. Jack Salzman has already helped with local gigs at the Kingston Mines, traveled to WC Handy awards, and has a production assistant credit on a Magic Slim recording with Blind Pig Records. He contributed creative ideas for the title and cover shot. Just two more recordings and Jack will be eligible as a voting member of NARAS for the Grammy Awards. Jack is also on the publicity team of his school, Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, Illinois.
Spring in South America
The American Embassy in Paraguay is negotiating with Salzman and Associates to help promote American music in the country for Paraguay’s bicentennial. First up Blues for Paraguay…we have no doubt they will love what is considered true American roots music. Marty Salzman was the first music agent to bring Blues to Brazil over 25 years ago and the Brazilians, who naturally love music, took to Blues and even today Marty Salzman is known as the “go to guy” for Brazil. Speaking fluent Portuguese certainly helps but so does having close working relationships with many of the major artists in blues and rock world. Marty was the first the bring Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Etta James, Magic Slim, Paul Rodgers, Wilson Pickett, the Commitments and many other well known artists to the beautiful beaches of Rio as well as the touring all over the country as far north as Recife and far south as Porto Allegro.
Max Cooperstein
Max Cooperstein has been with Salzman and Associates for over 13 years as booking agent for Magic Slim. Max is a legend in the biz. He started his career at the famous Chess Records and helped launch the careers of Etta James, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and the list goes on and on. Max’s love of music and sharp business sense helped to put Chess Records on the map and shape the music industry of today. Max retired this year after 60 yrs in the music business and we will miss his talent and energy, and most of all, his ability to mentor young people in the business. Thanks for all your work and devotion to music Max.
